Our mission at the Shia Islamic Sunday School is to provide children with a comprehensive and holistic education in the teachings of Islam, as practiced by the Ahlul Bayt (a). We strive to instill in our students a love for their faith, as well as a strong moral character and sense of responsibility to their community.
Our goal is to create an environment where children can learn and grow in their knowledge and understanding of Islam, through a combination of classroom learning, hands-on activities, and personal reflection. We aim to develop the whole child – intellectually, socially, emotionally, and spiritually – and to prepare them to become well-rounded, active members of the Shia community and the wider world.
Our vision at the Shia Islamic Sunday School is to cultivate a new generation of confident and well-informed Shia Muslim leaders, who are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to make a positive impact in their communities and the world.
We envision a future where our students are passionate and dedicated ambassadors of their faith, and where they are recognized for their commitment to excellence, their compassion for others, and their unwavering dedication to justice and equality.

Sunday School runs from 11:00 am to 2:30 PM and Our Bell Schedule is posted on weekly basis on BHSS Portal
Throughout the academic year, BHSS organizes several events such as Youm e Hussain (A), Annual Juloos e Aza, Annual Jashan, Eid Celebrations, Annual Picnic, Visit to Garden of Fatima Cemetery, various English Scholar sessions and more.
Apart from our annual events, BHSS works along with the Bab ul Hawaij special teams (Young Azadaar Engagement Team & Bab ul Hawaij Lions) to organize special programs for our future leaders. Some of our special programs are:
Islam is a religion that emphasizes the importance of community and fostering a sense of belonging among its members.
During Ramadan and Muharram, BHSS aims to empower and engage our Young Azadaars through the learning based activities, voluntarism, recitations at the Center & special age-appropriate programs. We also offer the Young Azadaar Volunteer program to our students to serve at the Islamic Center. While volunteering, they are assigned different tasks such as organizing shoes, setting up the Farsh e Aza, prayer mats, cleaning, maintaining the Library, water distribution, trash pick up and so on.
Through this program, we hope to foster a sense of community and purpose in them and to help them prepare to offer their best services to the Imam of our time (Al Ajal).
Thursday Nights ( Shab e Juma ) have special place in spiritual progress, especially for our deceased relatives, our forgiveness & most important, remembering and praying for re appearance of Imam Al Ajal (a)
BHSS organizes Thursday night programs once or twice in each term where our students recite the Hadees e Kisa, Dua e Kumayl & Ziyarat e Warisa. Such initiative is taken to instill the significance of these spiritual nights in our generation.
Bab ul Hawaij Sunday School students also participate actively in community outreach programs such as Eid Basket Drive for Muslims in Calgary, Annual fundraising, Annual Food Drive for Calgary Food bank and so on.
Recently, our students collected over 3500$ for Pakistan Flood Relief 2022 and it was donated to JDC and Maktab e Zainabiya Foundation.
Such programs help our students to learn the importance of giving back to the society where we live in and demonstrates the true example of being Hussaini.
BHSS offers once or twice a sports event (Bab ul Hawaij Lions Event) in each academic year. The mission of our BHL events is to promote the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of our community, while fostering a deeper connection to Islam and its values.
Our goal is to provide a safe and inclusive environment where individuals of all ages and abilities can participate and grow in their faith and athletic abilities. We strive to instill in our participants a love for sports, a commitment to hard work, and a respect for fair play and good sportsmanship. And by incorporating Islamic principles and values into our sports programs, we aim to create a unique and meaningful experience for our participants.
